Food is a basic human right, yet many in Hartford face barriers to accessing nutritious, affordable options. We are working to eliminate food deserts and ensure that fresh, healthy food is within reach for all.
Access to nutritious, affordable food is essential for community well-being. Hartford faces significant barriers, with only one full-service grocery store serving the entire city. This lack of access disproportionately affects People of Color and low-income families.
The Healthy Hartford Hub addresses this challenge head-on by:
- Developing a full-service supermarket in the North Hartford Promise Zone.
- Reducing food deserts and bringing fresh produce closer to residents.
- Partnering with community initiatives like the Transforming Communities Initiative and the ….project.
By investing in a sustainable grocery model and advocating for policy changes, we aim to make healthy food accessible to all Hartford residents.
